I just have a lot of feelings...

Let the rants begin...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUFT35S7Jb4

Like the girl in the video, it's true. I have a lot of feelings. On various subjects. Unfortunately not all of them fit neatly into other posts. So I'm just going to discuss them now... by discuss, I mean rant.

The History Channel

I don't know about you guys, but I often find myself at home during the day with nothing to watch on TV. In this situation, I often turn to one of three reliable channel resources.

1. Whatever Channel Maury is on.
2. The Food Network
3. The History Channel

Who doesn't love watching trainwrecks cry? Nobody that's who. Everybody loves a good round of paternity test shenanigans, but sometimes Maury, Montel, Jerry Springer, and/or Judge Judy aren't on TV. At that point, there's only one logical person to turn to... Paula Deen. But oh no! Paula doesn't come on til 4! That can mean only one thing... it's time to learn about the Pyramids.

Or at least that's what you want from the History Channel... and sometimes that's what you get. But chances are, 90% of the times you tune into the History Channel... it will be something WWII related or Gangland... which they somehow find a way to relate to WWII. (How many Gangland specials are there on the Aryan Brotherhood anyway?)

WWII can be fascinating... at least that's what the History Channel WANTS you to think. That's why they give their WWII specials names like "Hitler and the Occult." With a name like that, how could you NOT want to watch? I mean Hitler was one messed up dude, I can't think of anyone more evil... oh wait, yes I can... SATAN! The only way the ending of Inglourious Basterds would have been more satisfying is if the Bear Jew had gunned down Satan after he finished with Hitler. Seriously, Hitler and Satan, the two biggest names in douchebaggery, teamed up, one night only... FOR A HISTORY CHANNEL SPECTACULAR EVENT!!!

But that's not what this special is about at all... Pretty much the whole thing boils down to, "Hitler was kind of into Astrology."

Big. Deal.

So is the lady who cuts my hair. She also enjoys Elvis Costello and is saving up to go visit the Harry Potter theme park in Florida when it opens. Do I want to watch a History Channel special about her? That's a definite no. The worst part is that the History Channel has awesome specials, they just NEVER play them, look at this list...

History of Vampires
The Aztecs and Human Sacrifice
Historical Ghost Stories
Mysteries of the Pyramids
Stonehenge: Temple of the Dead
Ancient Aliens

That's how many awesome ones I found in 60 seconds. Guess what? None of them are WWII related, which is probably why they don't show them.

Crappy Band Names

Tokio Hotel... before I go for the obvious jokes, can I just point out that the normal looking ones in that picture have names like Gustav and Georg... while Bob Marley and Edward Scissorhands over there get names like Bill and Tom. Seriously unfair. Now that's out of the way... TOKIO HAS A Y IN IT! T-O-K-Y-O, TOKYO. The Germans aren't the only culprits here, this is a war we're fighting on our very own American soil...

Soulja Boy Tell 'Em... Tell them what, Soulja Boy? While we're at it... S-O-L-D-I-E-R!!! Soldier, not Soulja. Now, I'm not just getting down on people for bad spelling, because hey, I love The Beatles, and they would be decidedly less awesome if they were called The Beetles, but the misspelling serves a purpose. BEATles, like a beat in their music. The difference is that no one gets confused by the name "The Beatles" there's no dangling pronouns in "The Beatles" it doesn't leave you scratching your head thinking... huh? Bad band names can cause confusion, as seen in this epic and awesome film...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs_h7YdIe_k

Do you think they would have gotten famous if they would have kept their name as the Oneders (Hey, that's O-nee-ders) instead of the Wonders? Heck no. So cut the crap, and have a normal band name, for all our sakes.

I like to end on a positive...

Old Spice

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owGykVbfgUE

Don't even lie, that's the funniest commercial you've seen all week, maybe month, possibly year, Old Spice doesn't smell too bad either. A message to all the dudes out there, smelling nice is basically one of the best things you can do to "Up your Game" there's not much better than a guy that smells like nice cologne... or at the very least Old Spice.

Paige's Favorite Albums and Why...

Okay, so I cleaned my cavernous abyss of a bedroom the other day and found about 4 CD's that I had totally forgotten I had, and consequently, totally forgotten how much I love, and I realized I've never put up a comprehensive list of my all time faves. Well, that time is now! (I'm updating... happy Michelle? ;)

Maroon 5 - Songs about Jane

I know I've mentioned my love for this album on the blog before, but this is one of the few albums that I can listen to from beginning to end without skipping to the next track, and be completely content. Fun fact: If you listen to this album from start to finish, it follows the life cycle of a doomed relationship... also it's awesome.
Download: This Love, Sunday Morning etc.

The Killers - Hot Fuss

This kind of music is not normally my cup of tea. Aside from my embarrassing ammount of Lady Gaga as of late, Electronic/Dance stuff has never been my thing, but after buying this album I instantly fell in love with it. Mr. Brightside is in the top 3 of every Best Songs Ever mix I make.
Download: Mr. Brightside, duh. Also, Midnight Show

The Fratellis - Costello Music

I bought this album on a whim after seeing the now famous iPod ad...

For the facebook peeps:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKxGfLo7Cqo

Little did I know the wonders that awaited within. It's good old fashioned English Pub Rock with a modern flare and it's virtually impossible to dislike in any way shape or form. It's also been featured in some high quality cinema... like Hot Fuzz
Download: Whistle for the Choir, Baby Fratelli

Mika - Life in Cartoon Motion

Because it's freakin' awesome that's why. When I was a freshman, Mesa Commons would always have MtvU playing on all the TVs in the dining room. One day while savoring a stale bagel and staring mindlessly at the screens I saw the video for Grace Kelly with no music (because they never turned the volume loud enough for us to actually hear anything) and I was oddly compelled to go home and look up the song on iTunes. Boy am I glad I did. I would say this is the best album I've purchased since going to college.
Download: Grace Kelly, Big Girl You are Beautiful, Lollipop

No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom

Do I really even have to justify this one. You'd be hard pressed to find someone my age that doesn't know about half the songs on this album... it was legendary back in the day, and guess what, it still holds up. Fun fact: I have this album on vinyl and the record is green... literally green. The only thing cooler than that is my lavender copy of Purple Rain.
Download: Spiderwebs, Just a Girl, and of course Don't Speak

Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen

Before Ben Folds was a solo artist and put out even more albums filled with righteous tune-age he was in a band... that was named after him... Essentially it's the same thing, but with 2 other guys added to the mix. The interesting thing about Ben Folds Five is that many songs people attribute to Ben Folds as a solo artist were actually originally performed by the band.
Download: Fair, Kate, Brick, Song For the Dumped

They Might Be Giants - Apollo 18

A childhood favorite that I've recently re-discovered. They have such an interesting sound and there's not much like them out there anymore. Plus, I really enjoyed their tiny 30 second cameo in Coraline...

For all the facebook peeps...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=km7JsvdmMyI
Download: Dinner Bell, Mammal, Evil Twin, Narrow Your Eyes, I Palindrome I

Ludo - You're Awful I Love You

Yet another gem gleaned from early campus cable and MtvU. I think the thing that truly makes the first single off this album is the music video. It looks like it's all one take and it requires a truly trained eye to spot the nearly flawless cuts...

For the facebook peeps:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XH3oMNKApI
Download: Drunken Lament, Mutiny Below

The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night

I know there are so many good Beatles albums to choose from, but I choose this one. It has some of my all time favorite Beatles songs all in one place. Not to say that the other albums aren't equally list worthy, but this is the one I find myself listening to most often.
Download: If I fell, And I Love Her, The rest of the album

Jellyfish - Spilt Milk

One of the best albums of the 90's that no one ever heard and sadly the band broke up right after the release of this album, so there's no knowing how much more awesome they would have gotten with time.
Download: Joining a Fan Club, Sebrina Paste and Plato, New Mistake

Queen - Greatest Hits Vol.1

It basically has all the best Queen songs on one CD including my personal guilty pleasure fave "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy" Which was also lovingly covered by Mr. Jason Mraz... and covered well if I do say so myself.
Download: Don't Stop Me Now, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, Killer Queen

Fall Out Boy - Infinity On High

Say what you will, naysayers. But I love this album... I also tend to lose it in my car and then find it months later subsequently falling in love with it anew.
Download: The Take Over The Break's Over, Thnks Fr Th Mmrs, I've got all this ringing in my ears...

Happy Listening!

Things I Bought That I Love

Some of my favorite things have unfortunately come to an end as of late. No, I'm not just talking about Fall Out Boy. This past week, I went to check in to one of my favorite Blogs... AND IT WAS GONE!!! NOOOOO!!!

I've referenced thingsiboughtthatilove.com before, and some of you may recognize it as Mindy Kaling's (Kelly from the Office) blog. The point of the blog is basically for Mindy and her friends to show off recent purchases and talk about why they're so awesome. Let me just say... she has great taste. So, in memory of this blog, I've decided to make my own list of things that I bought I love, enjoy!

Mac Fan Apple Earrings - $13.99

These sweet studs are made from tiny logo stickers rescued from Macs from days of old. Not only are they SUPER cute but also environmentally friendly because they're made from recycled materials. A cute way for stylish broads to hint at inner nerdiness. You can get your own pair at Etsy.com

Mika: The Boy Who Knew Too Much - $11.99 @ BestBuy

Sad about Fall Out Boy breaking up? DON'T BE! Just pop in some Mika! The best part is that it's physically impossible to be anything but euphorically happy when listening to Mika. No seriously, try to think of Dead puppies whilst watching this video...

For the Facebook Peeps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOWW-0OwxEU&feature=fvw

You can't do it can you? It's just too awesome to be sad. Another Thing I Bought That I Love = Tickets to see Mika Live. Probably the best concert I have ever attended, I'd go again tomorrow for double the price... it would be totally worth it. You can buy it wherever sweet tunes are sold.

This T-Shirt! - £25

We met this artist at the Camden Open Air Market in London and he finally has his website up and running, which is awesome because his designs are super fun and have recently been featured on the BBC. Who knows, maybe he'll get super famous some day and you could have one of his first shirts. I'm quite partial to the monster, as well as the shirt featuring a giant octopus attacking London.

The IT Crowd DVDs Seasons 1 - 3 - $19.00 Each @ Best Buy

The second British import on our list. Did you ever wonder where Big Bang Theory borrowed all their good ideas from? IT WAS THIS SHOW! Except that this show is infinitely more awesome. Don't believe me? All the seasons are available to watch instantly on Netflix, try a few episodes out... you'll thank me.

Zebra Flats - $12.99 @ Target

These shoes are SUPER comfortable, they come in like a MILLION different prints/colors, and did I mention they're $12.99? $12.99 People! I have 4 different pairs of these shoes... not a day goes by when I don't wear at least one of those pairs. They're more comfortable than tennis shoes and a helluva lot cuter. Thank you Target, for enabling poor college kids like me to have sweet Zapatos.

Tell me the best stuff you've bought lately in the comments section!
